Spanish 1 Grade: 9th – 12th

Description: This course is designed to introduce the college bound student
to the study of another language. Emphasis is on the four aspects of language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students will also study the culture of the Spanish speaking countries and Hispanic Americans. This course is not for native Spanish speakers.

Description: This course builds on the skills learned in Spanish1 and is designed to teach students to communicate in Spanish. Instruction will emphasize listening, speaking, reading and writing. Student will be prepared for advanced work in Spanish. Students will be able to express themselves verbally in present and past tenses. There will be additional focus on reading and comprehension in Spanish.

Spanish 3 Grade: 10th – 12th

Description: This course is designed to help students continue their learning and understanding of the Spanish language. Grammar reviews, as well as new grammatical points, will be covered in this course. Review and increasing practice of speaking, listening, writing and reading skills will be emphasized at this level. Culture and literature are combined to help students gain a broader view of the Spanish speaking world. Spanish will be the primary language of communication in the class.


Latin 1A Grade: 9th-12th
Prerequisite: None

Beginning Latin students may meet at St. Jude's during 4th period (grades 9+) or 5th period (grades 7+). This course uses the Latin textbook ECCE ROMANI and is worth 2.5 credits, which means that assignments are limited to about half an hour daily. Students take Latin 1B the next year, and Latin 2 the following year. This sequence meets the University of California foreign language sequence. Students may also choose to take only one year of Latin as a foundation for study in a modern foreign language or for better understanding of English grammar and vocabulary. We also study Roman culture and history and take the National Latin Exam. I will have a help site available at www.ecce.wikispaces.com. I am NCLB certified in Latin and have the equivalent of a minor in Latin.


Latin 2 Grade 10th-12th
Prerequisite: None

All advanced students are continuing on for a 5 credit class with about an hour of homework daily. They will have arranged class hours, including a Monday afternoon session at 4:30 in Keyes or in other locations to be determined by the students.
